When typing an e-mail it is accidently deleted - did I make a keystroke mistake? What can I do?

I have tried saving as a draft several times, but this is clumsy. I can't seem to get the deleted letter back (control V). I am sure its a typing mistake and I am sure I didn't hit the delete key.
